The art of collaboration is an undeniable force.
A little over a year ago, I linked up with the hip-hop oriented site Refined Hype on a feature that we called ”Overlooked.” The deal was simple: I provided their audience with my favorite non hip-hop songs of the week, and their team hit me with a handful of tracks that slipped under my radar. Both audiences benefited in that they were introduced to new music entirely outside of their respective comfort zones.
I’ve been following Sunset in the Rearview for a while now, since Lydia was freshly graduated from Duke, and it’s been exciting watching the site grow from one personality to many. Arjun came out of left field by combining a dynamite music taste with hysterical writing, and he swiftly became one of my favorite contributors of the site. This all led to where we are now: a new round of “Overlooked.”
I’ll be hitting the SITR crew with three tracks that I think they missed over the course of the month, and Arjun will be providing three picks that he thinks we airballed on over at The Chuckness.
A collaboration for the people.

1. The Rubens – My Gun (Twice As Nice Remix
L.A. based/Australia-born production duo Twice As Nice have repeatedly impressed me with their different portrayals of already stellar originals. I think the first release that I got my ears on from them was their Ghost Loft remix, which was shortly followed by their undeniable take on Coasts’ “Oceans.”
Shout out to Nick (1/2 of Twice As Nice) for looping me in on their interpretation of The Rubens’ “My Gun,” — just might be my favorite work of theirs to date.
2. José González – Crosses (Dinner Date Remix)
Easy, sleep-inducing listening for the people — courtesy of this Dinner Date remix of the José González staple. “Crosses” has, and always will, swiftly carry me off into REM-dreamland. This re-work still knocks me out cold, but simultaneously invokes some next-level, vivid dreams that only a Dinner Date remix can provide. Musical Lunesta for days.

3. Fareoh – ID/BDKMV
Remember when it became public knowledge that Lady Gaga was initially expected to sing the hook on Kendrick Lamar’s anthemic “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe”? That version was unearthed in the blogosphere, made some waves, and then slowly disappeared into the abyss. Everyone forgot about it except for Fareoh it seems, who has masterfully fused it with an original of his own.
